"Austin's" DM lesions were so minor most breeders would have dismissed the two areas of hairloss as either a touch of demodex or the result of rough puppy play. However, a breeder with familiarity of DM would be rightfully suspicious. As "Cassie" is "Austin's" half sister and she already had a positive DM biopsy, he was also donated to the TX A&M DM studies. There is a tiny spot maybe the size of a pencil eraser in the lower corner of his right eye and another small spot on the center of his muzzle right below the start of the white noseband. These two lesions were all the DM "Austin" has ever had. He cleared after four months of Trental theraopy and has been off medication since January 2000 with no recurrence of the disease.
