"Misty" is also known affectionately as the "Wonder Mouse" because she
climbs like a little monkey and jumps with the best athlete. At 11 1/2" tall, "Mouse" clears a thirty-six inch
exercise pen in one bound. "Misty" presented with DM a a puppy after suffering a gastrointestinal infection
that lasted approximately twenty-four hours when she was six weeks old. She presented with small areas of
hair loss around her eyes and top of her muzzle, much like demodectic mange. These areas were soon joined
with small bare patches on her feet and lower legs. Then the last 1 1/2" to 2" of her tail tip became totally
bald. Like "Khissy", "Misty Mouse" suffered no great huge crusty scabs. The tiny scab visible on her tail in
the photos is a blood scab (resulting from normal trauma) rather than a serous scab, which is normally
associated with DM. "Misty" was one of the first shelties to participate in the TX A&M DM drug study and is one of the
best examples of the success of treating DM symptoms with Trental. Because of this, "Misty, Wonder Mouse" has been
selected the official Texas A&M Dermatomyositis Studies Poster Puppy (even if she is three years old! She's still little.)
The upper photo is slightly deceiving as the tail tip was totally bald. The hair, which appears to be on the
underside of the tail, is actually long hair flowing down from above the DM lesion. The lower photo shows the
almost total hair regrowth on her tail tip.
