"Rory" is another puppy onset DM dog. His lesions are confined
to his face and forelegs. He is a dog who is easily stressed and this shows in the waxing and waning of his DM lesions.
"Rory" is an intact male of a much more active temperament than "Austin", (the other donated adult male who is
extremely laid back, temperament wise). "Rory's" photos show his status as a young puppy when he was first donated
to the TX A&M DM studies program and then again in late March 2000 after a flare up. However, even with the
exacerbation of his DM in March, you can tell there was improvement in some areas from his puppy picture. Now
in the late fall 2000, "Rory" has had even greater improvement--his legs are nearly completely refurred and
his face has additional hair growth. The underlying temperament of the affected dog appears to have a lot to
do with how the animal tolerates stress. The more laid back the personality, the less the DM appears to
fluctuate.
The upper photo demonstrates the inital lesions "Rory" came with. It take some close observation,
but lesions over the bridge of the muzzle and on the right cheek can be found. In the lower photos,
even after an exacerbation of the DM, the lesions over the bridge of the muzzle are smaller while the lesion
on the right cheek remains basically unchanged.
