Desi discovered culture shock when he came to Texas. He left Calgary, Canada and two feet of snow with temperatures in the twenties and arrived at the Houston airport to find a balmy seventy degree day with grass all around!!! He just stood there and stared. This dog walked out of his crate at the airport and into my heart and there he has stayed. He quickly earned his UCI INT Championship and he had come with his Canadian Championship. Then as we were starting his AKC career, he broke a canine off and we decided that he would enjoy the sofa, the girls and loving his mom. At the age of seven, Desi started a new effort—he began agility training. At 8 1/2, he entered his first agility trial and earned his NA and NAJ in three straight days of trialing. In a handful of shows since then he has also gotten his NAP, NJP, OAP, OJP. Desi is 14 1/2” tall and at 9 1/2 he is competing in preferred so that he has shorter jumps and he can really have fun. We will show him this fall/winter and see if he earns his AXP and AJP. If he does, he will retire from trials, but he will continue to go to agility class where he has an absolute ball. He also discovered that swimming could be fun exercise last summer and he joins the rest of the Shalaine crew that is active in agility trials in the swimming pool two or three times a week as long as the weather permits.
